This journal will be used mainly to keep track of goals I have in life and my achievements and progress towards them. It's easy to make plans and talk about things, but only actions bring results. This journal is for me to keep track of my personal goals and the deeds which will allow me to met my goals.
I am 25 years old, married, and working two jobs, a full-time night shift job in law enforcement, and selling real estate during the day. I am trying to get organized and be successful enough in real estate to make it my only career sometime in the near future.
I am a compulsive hoarder/clutterer, trying to recover on my own because of the tension it has caused between my husband and I, because I want to be able to invite friends over, and because the way I've been living is a health and fire hazard. I am also trying to learn better time management and organizational skills as a whole, in order to be less stressed and get more done both at work and at home. I'm hoping getting more organized and setting goals and plans to reach those goals will also help with some of the mental and emotional issues that I have and the problems they have created in my life.
I have struggled with depression since my teens, and PTSD since college, which can just sap my energy and make it hard to get anything done at times. I have compulsive spending tendencies, especially when I am just going into or coming out of a depressive state and that, combined with the effects of losing bills in the clutter and not having a budget or keeping track of money [thus overspending each month and getting way behind on bills, bouncing checks, etc] has wrecked my finances, made it very hard to make ends meet each month, and added a ton of stress and worry to my life. I also tend to binge when I am stressed or depressed, and have been obese since I was 13 years old, having periods of non-purging bulimia [binging and restricting or overexercising] and ednos [long -term restricting without binging] for the last 8 years or so. This is another area of my life that I am trying to change, by being more active, eating healthier foods, and finding better ways to deal with my emotions.
I don't want to give too much identifiable personal information, because I want to be able to be honest without worrying that friends, family, business associates, or clients will see this and judge me or my level of productivity by it. My goals will probably tell more about me that anything I could write here.
My main goal categories are:
Business - I am learning many ways to develop my business further, so that I can list and sell more homes and have a greater income and more flexibility in how I work and live. I am tracking my progress so that I will spend more time generating and following up on leads, get more training and education, and provide better communication and service for my clients.
Finances - I am learning to manage my money and bills, and am working to get rid of credit cards, pay off all my existing debt, and work towards a way of living that will allow me to pay for everything as I can afford it, so I'm not losing money to interest and getting caught in the credit trap again. I will not repeat the same bad financial decisions now that I made when younger.
Fitness - I am working on making exercise a routine part of my day and getting into the habit of eating healthier foods in more realistic portion sizes, and of not allowing my emotions or stress to control my diet and activity levels. As a result, I should lose a lot of weight and fat, but my main goal is simply more energy and a longer, healthier, life.
Organization - I am removing mountains of clutter from my house, a few pieces at a time, and organizing what's left so that my home is attractive, welcoming, and easier to find what I need in. I am breaking the habit of "hoarding" useless and unneeded items, and am addressing my needs and wants through other, more rational needs instead. I am developing the habit of picking things up as soon as I am done with them and cleaning in small bursts throughout the day, so the the tasks don't pile up. I am scheduling my time and developing better time management skills.
Personal Development - Everything in this journal, including the categories above, fits into this, but it also includes goal setting, reading books, attending classes/seminars, or listening to tapes to help me plan and reach those goals, and other things that will help me continue my education and build my character.
